Flaming Crimes: Disaster Crimes, Book 4 (ADULT AUDIO)

Beth and Donovan are happily married and are now starting to think of kids.  But wildfires close to their home has them both on edge, so much so they don't notice some of the strange things that are happening to them for what they are, until it is almost to late.  Now the fire is coming for their house and while Donovan is helping keep water on the house Beth is running things to there car and helping neighbors until she finds herself running for her life.

These books just keep getting better, more action and more suspense, I don't know how the author does it but I like it.  Narrator Bill Nevitt gives it another awesome performance and I can not wait for the next book.  Beth and Donovan have become family and I love hearing what they are up too and how they beat the bad guys.

The Diamond Eye (Adult)

Mila Pavlichenko a History student working on her dissertation.  She goes out for a weekend at the beech with friends she at a opera/ballet to see some friends perform when she finds out Hitler just invaded Russia.  She next finds herself signing up to go to the front with the infantry, where her goal is to become a sniper.  After overcoming the sex discrimination against women being effective snipers she becomes one of the best in Russia.  But as you will find out there is much more than just that to Mila, so much more.

I love Kate Quinn's books and this one is no different.  I fell in love with Mila almost from the start, being a female veteran myself working in a more male dominated job I felt a sisterhood with her and cheered her on throughout this book.  Mila's character is one you won't ever forget, her tenacity will inspire, and her gumption will impress you.

Shattered: The Illusion of Truth, Book 2 (YA AUDIO)

We heard Tenly’s side after become a member of the Cobalt Premier Workforce in Collapsed book 1, now we hear what Kalib has gone through after going to his assignment in the Premier Workforce.  His job and function to the scarlets have been very different than Tenly’s.  Even through Tenly’s rejection and her implying that he cheated to get his spot, Kalib just can’t shake Tenly from him mind not to mention he promised her dad he would watch put for her.

This was a wonderful book that showed a different side of the same place and allowed the reader/listener to get the whole story before moving on.  There is so much action and suspense that it will keep you up past your bedtime to find out what happens.  I had the audio and took the long way to each destination so I could hear more.  The narrator Darren Martens does a excellent job telling Kalib’s story that you forget that you aren’t actually listening to the character.  This is a great clean series one that should not be missed.

The Storm Glass: The Glass Sky Series, Book 1 (YA AUDIO)

Star doesn't want to get married she wants to be a engineer/mechanic like her dad, and she feels no husband would ever let her do that, she thinks she would have to be arm candy and a baby factory to any of her parents choices, but there is a lot of the world Star knows nothing about.  She is about to get a crash course.

This was a great story with lots of twists and turns and full bore action until the end.  The audio is narrated by a wonderful voice actor Kim Churchill who will have you thinking you are there with Star and her hero Clyde, pointing them in the right direction and letting Star know when she is doing dumb things, not that she will listen to you.  I really can't wait for the next book, and I hope you won't be able to as well.

The Kaiju Preservation Society (ADULT)

Jamie had a decent job, but with covid shutdowns looming in New York he finds himself laid off.  So just to make money he takes a lower position with the company and now finds himself a delivery person similar to doordash.  One day he delivers to a person that turned out to be a old friend, Tom.  But after a few months Tom tells Jamie he won't be ordering for a long while as his company is sending him away on business, it dawns on Tom to offer Jamie a recently vacated position on his team and without knowing anything about the job other than he will be lifting things Jamie takes it.  But what happens next will rock his world.

This was a great book that kept me up past my bedtime a few nights to see what happened next.  This book is action packed and will grab your attention and not let go until a while after you finish and process it all.  I can not say enough about this wonderful book other than I will be recommending it a lot.

Seeking Hope: The Emergence Saga, Book 1 (ADULT AUDIO)

Five years after the super bug started Astra and Jude emerge from their underground bunker their parents put them in to wait it out.  The next step is to find food and Astra's sister Hope who the government took in the beginning of the pandemic for testing to make a cure for the super bug.  But what Astra and Jude find is shocking even to them.

This is another wonderful book by Kim Cresswell where the heroes come from ordinary people doing what they need to do because it is the right thing to do.  The action comes fast and furious and the suspense is thick.  Emma Stemen narrates the audio for this book and she does a awesome job.  I can't wait for more to see what happens next.

Tsunami Crimes: Disaster Crimes, Book 3 (ADULT AUDIO)

Beth and Donovan are getting married but the bad guys have other plans.  But when their detective friend gets the police to tighten the circle around the pair until they leave for their honeymoon all seems good and no one thinks they bad guys will follow them to Hawaii.  But then a tsunami hits and Beth and Donovan get separated and they aren't even sure if the other, or the bad guy, has survived.

This is another 100 mph action book from start to end, with twists and turns all over.  If you are listening to the series you will be glad to know that Bill Nevitt is back with another awesome narration of this series.  I hope you all will love this series as much as I do.

North to Paradise: A Memoir (ADULT)

Ousman at 12 years old left his village to undertake a 5 year trek to Europe.  Ever step of the way he found friends and a guiding hand to help him even as others fell by the wayside.

This was a very inspiring book and what this young man did and endured was amazing.

The School for Whatnots (MG)

Josie is raised from almost birth to be a whatnot, a child who acts a certain way (like a robot) and when old enough goes to school with a rich kid, until middle school.  The rich kids parents purposefully do this to save their children from being taken advantage of, Josie's dad did this so maybe she would get to go to nicer schools and get out of the poor neighborhood they live in.  But Josie and her rich kid Max turn out to be more than friends they are best friends that aren't ready to lose each other yet, and that is where this story gets very interesting.

This is one of those stories that is fun to read and makes you think if this could really happen, but at the same time makes you a bit sick to feel any child feels this way.  It is a great story of true friendship and even though that is not the full take away from the book I hope it is the main take away.  This book would be great for all readers as it has something for everyone.
